Enskripsyon

On Monday morning at 9:00 am, Hope on a String started registration for another summer session, which will last for ~6 weeks.  The staff was very prepared; they updated their registration process and the survey they gave to each new enrollee.  Each person fills out a form that asks them for their basic personal information (name, date of birth, address, gender, etc.), and then a survey that asks them if they have a job, if they are able to feed their family, what they hope to accomplish through Hope on a String, if they know how to play any music, and what their larger hopes are for their lives.

Most of the children under the age of 10 who attended Monday's registration needed help filling out the basic personal information form.  Some of them could not read the questions and others did not know enough of the information to fill it out.  I'm not sure if this should have been surprising to me, but it was.  I know that some kids go to school regularly and other kids do not.  Most of the schools cost money and parents can pay by the month to have their children attend each month.  Some kids attend school for the whole year, others go as their parents can afford it, and others do not go to school at all.  The first two pictures below show some HoaS staff members helping the children fill out the basic form.  The bottom-most picture shows a local teenager who stepped in to help one of the younger kids.

During Monday's registration, HoaS enrolled approximately 50 new people for this upcoming session!!!  They had many returning people sign up for the classes as well.  For this summer interim session, Hope on a String is offering the following classes: Electrical (level 1), English (levels 1-4), Literacy (levels 1-2), Music Theory (levels 1-3), Wind Instruments (level 2), Flute for children (levels 1-2), Communication/Public Speaking (level 1), Drums (level 1-2), Music Improv., Dance for kids, Dance for adults, Knitting, Guitar (levels 1-2), Keyboard, Children's Choir (songs in English and Kreyol).  A full schedule, Monday-Sunday!  Registration will continue through Saturday!
